Matteo Milleri, the visionary electronic artist globally recognized as Anyma, has officially addressed the abrupt termination of his “ÆDEN” tour date in Istanbul. Originally scheduled for September 12, the performance at Ataköy Marina Arena was blocked by the Istanbul Governorate. This administrative intervention followed a surge of online hostility, where detractors labeled the show’s high-concept visual elements-specifically its robotic motifs and dystopian, cyberpunk-inspired imagery-as “satanic” or pagan-influenced.
Digital Misinformation and Cultural Backlash
The cancellation was the direct result of a coordinated social media campaign. Critics utilized isolated, out-of-context snippets of Anyma’s performance to incite a public boycott, arguing that the show’s aesthetic clashed with local societal values. Milleri noted that stripping a single frame from a larger cinematic experience is a disingenuous way to interpret art. “Taking one scene from any film or work and presenting it out of context as the meaning of the entire project is fundamentally misleading,” he stated.
