Everplay Bolsters Stake in Bulkhead Following Wardogs’ Rapid Success
The gaming landscape has seen a significant shift as Wardogs, the latest title from developer Bulkhead, officially crossed the one-million-unit milestone shortly after its September 10 early access debut. This impressive performance has prompted Everplay-the parent company of Team17-to deepen its financial commitment to the studio, signaling strong confidence in the project’s long-term trajectory.
Strategic Growth and Portfolio Performance
Everplay’s leadership is projecting a robust finish to the fiscal year, largely driven by the commercial momentum of Wardogs and the positive reception of Expression Games’ Hell Let Loose: Vietnam. These titles are currently exceeding internal performance benchmarks, providing a vital boost to the company’s broader portfolio.
This move to increase its stake in Bulkhead marks a pivotal chapter for the developer. Previously under the umbrella of Tencent, Bulkhead was acquired last December by a consortium featuring Everplay, Hiro Capital, and Super Media Group. The current investment surge underscores the studio’s successful transition and its growing value within the Everplay ecosystem.
Financial Overview: Navigating Market Fluctuations
While the recent success of new releases is promising, Everplay’s unaudited financial report for the first half of 2026 (ending June 30) reflects a period of adjustment. The company recorded £66.9 million in revenue-an 8% year-over-year decline-alongside a 29% dip in profits, which settled at £23.9 million.
However, the company’s “evergreen” strategy remains a pillar of stability. Revenue from its extensive back catalogue, which spans over 150 titles, saw a modest uptick of 1.2%, reaching £64.3 million. This resilience highlights the importance of maintaining a diverse library of legacy games to offset the inherent volatility of new product launches.
Investment in Future Development
Everplay is doubling down on its creative pipeline. By increasing its game development budget by 14% to £16.4 million, the company has successfully expanded its production capacity, now managing 20% more active projects compared to the previous year. This aggressive expansion is supported by a diverse release schedule, which saw the introduction of four new titles in the first half of 2026: Lumentale: Memories of Trey, Sintopia, Wardrum, and Rogue Point.
Beyond traditional gaming, the company’s subsidiary, StoryToys, has become a standout performer. The division reported a 43% surge in revenue, bolstered by a 22% increase in active subscribers-now totaling 408,000-and a massive footprint of over 18 million total downloads. This growth in the educational and mobile sector serves as a powerful hedge against the cyclical nature of the console and PC markets.
