Roblox Expands Footprint: New Riyadh Hub to Empower MENA Developers
Roblox is officially deepening its roots in the Middle East, announcing the launch of a dedicated regional headquarters in Riyadh. This strategic move is designed to bolster the platform’s creator ecosystem across the MENA region, providing localized support for the next generation of digital architects and game designers.
The expansion is a collaborative effort, backed by key Saudi Arabian entities including the Ministry of Investment, the General Authority of Media Regulation, and the Riyadh Creative District. By establishing a physical presence in the capital, Roblox aims to integrate more deeply into the local tech landscape.
Aligning with Saudi Vision 2030
Mohamed El Sheakh, General Manager for MENA and Türkiye at Roblox, emphasized that this move is far more than a simple office opening. “Our decision to establish our regional headquarters in Riyadh is a reflection of Roblox’s long-term investment in Saudi Arabia and our commitment to supporting the Kingdom’s digital economy objectives under Vision 2030,” El Sheakh noted.
The Kingdom has been aggressively pursuing its goal of becoming a premier global gaming and esports hub. With the gaming market in the MENA region projected to reach significant valuations-driven by a young, tech-savvy population-Roblox’s presence is timely. By fostering local talent, the company is positioning itself as a cornerstone of the region’s burgeoning digital creative economy.
Lowering Barriers for Local Creators
This announcement builds upon a foundational partnership established earlier this year with the Savvy Games Group. The collaboration is focused on streamlining access to Roblox’s proprietary development tools, effectively removing the technical hurdles that often prevent aspiring developers from entering the industry.
Roblox CEO Dave Baszucki has frequently championed the idea of democratizing game design. By providing the infrastructure for creators to build, publish, and monetize their experiences, the company is essentially acting as a digital incubator. “We firmly believe that investing in high-quality, accessible tools will help realize that vision for creators across Saudi Arabia and align with the growth of the Kingdom’s creator ecosystem,” the company stated.
A Strategic Ecosystem Approach
Beyond just providing software, the new Riyadh headquarters will focus on:
- Educational Outreach: Collaborating with local institutions to integrate game design into digital literacy programs.
- Developer Support: Offering mentorship and technical resources to help local studios scale their projects.
- Infrastructure Growth: Strengthening the local gaming pipeline to ensure that Saudi-made content can reach a global audience on the Roblox platform.
As the region continues to diversify its economy away from traditional sectors, the gaming and interactive media industry has emerged as a primary pillar of growth. With this new headquarters, Roblox is signaling that it intends to be a primary architect of that future.
