gyrofield Unveils Debut LP ‘Great Jobs’
The electronic music landscape is bracing for the arrival of Great Jobs, the highly anticipated debut studio album from the visionary producer gyrofield. Scheduled for release on October 21st, the project is spearheaded by the lead single and title track, “Great Jobs (Don’t Wanna),” which is available for streaming now.
A Fusion of Sonic Landscapes
The 10-track collection will be released via Field Research, the recently launched imprint helmed by the artist herself. Kiana Li, the Hong Kong-born, Netherlands-based talent behind the moniker, has crafted a soundscape that bridges disparate musical worlds. By blending the rhythmic foundations of soundsystem culture with the raw, jagged edges of post-industrial and post-punk aesthetics, Li creates a unique sonic architecture.
“I utilized post-punk as a framework for re-expression, while the core of the music remains rooted in the traditions of soundsystem culture,” Li explained in a recent press release. “My goal is to channel inspiration with a deep sense of reverence for these influences.”
Thematic Depth and Social Commentary
Beyond its technical prowess, Great Jobs serves as a deeply personal manifesto. The album navigates complex themes, including the nuances of queer identity, the necessity of empathy, and the turbulent state of modern society. Li notes that the creative process was a direct response to the current global climate, where many individuals are facing unprecedented hardships.
Reflecting on the emotional weight of the project, Li shared, “My internal state fluctuated between feeling completely adrift and searching for tangible forms of liberation. I needed a creative vessel to process these feelings-to expose the vulnerability inherent in our daily labor. This album captures my internal monologue, my frustrations with the status quo, and the way those impulses eventually dissipate under the pressure of creation. Completing this record was a cathartic journey; I’m grateful to have navigated that sonic terrain and emerged on the other side.”
Building on Recent Momentum
This full-length debut arrives as a significant milestone following the release of the ‘Your Flight‘ EP, which dropped earlier this May. With a growing discography that continues to push the boundaries of experimental electronic music, gyrofield is cementing her status as a vital voice in the contemporary scene.
