The New Voice of the Boy Wonder: Mason Thames Joins the DCU
While the identity of the actor who will eventually don the cowl for the DC Universe’s primary Batman remains a mystery, the studio has officially filled the role of his most iconic sidekick. DC Studios has confirmed that Mason Thames has been tapped to provide the voice for Dick Grayson in the highly anticipated animated feature, “Dynamic Duo.”
The casting news was verified by DC Studios co-CEO Peter Safran during a recent discussion with Collider. This project marks a significant step in expanding the animated side of the DCU, focusing on the legendary partnership between Batman and Robin.
From Horror and Fantasy to Gotham City
Mason Thames has rapidly become a rising star in Hollywood. He gained widespread recognition for his compelling performance in the supernatural horror hit “The Black Phone” and its subsequent follow-up. Furthermore, he is set to take on the iconic role of Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III in the upcoming live-action adaptation of “How to Train Your Dragon.”
Transitioning into the world of animation for “Dynamic Duo” allows Thames to showcase his vocal range, though fans are already speculating whether this role could serve as a springboard for a live-action appearance.
A Passionate Addition to the DC Universe
According to Safran, Thames’ involvement was driven by genuine enthusiasm rather than a standard audition process. The studio head emphasized a specific philosophy regarding their talent roster, noting, “We always talk about wanting volunteers and not recruits to be part of the DCU, to be part of DC Studios.”
Safran revealed that Thames had been actively pursuing the role of Dick Grayson for some time, making him a perfect fit for the studio’s vision of dedicated performers. By securing an actor who is deeply invested in the character, DC Studios hopes to bring a fresh, authentic energy to the Boy Wonder. As the DCU continues to build its interconnected slate of films and series, having a committed voice for such a pivotal character is a promising sign for the future of the franchise.
