Galantis Returns with ‘Do You Mind’ and Announces ‘The Devil’s Tax Return: Volume 1’

Electronic music powerhouse Galantis has officially returned to the spotlight, unveiling a fresh single titled ‘Do You Mind’ via Ninja Tune’s Counter Records. This release serves as the lead-up to a highly anticipated EP, The Devil’s Tax Return: Volume 1, which is slated for a global release on October 16.

A Fresh Spin on a UK Bassline Classic

‘Do You Mind’ is a bold reimagining of the 2007 UK bassline and R&B anthem originally by Paleface featuring Kyla. The track carries a rich history, having gained massive mainstream traction through the 2009 Crazy Cousinz remix and later achieving global ubiquity when Drake famously sampled Kyla’s iconic vocal hook for his 2016 chart-topper, ‘One Dance.’

Rather than simply applying a modern sheen to the original, Christian Karlsson-the creative force behind Galantis-has opted for a complete structural reconstruction. By isolating the emotional resonance of Kyla’s original vocal performance, Karlsson builds a new sonic architecture from the ground up.

“Certain tracks possess an untouchable quality because they perfectly encapsulated a specific moment in time,” Karlsson explains. “My goal wasn’t to force a total reinvention, but rather to honor the essence of the original while breathing new life into it. It’s a song I’ve cherished for years, and I find great satisfaction in curating and preserving the music that has shaped my own listening habits.”

The Creative Philosophy Behind ‘The Devil’s Tax Return’

This latest single follows the May release of ‘Stay Alive,’ marking the second installment in this new creative chapter. The EP’s title, The Devil’s Tax Return, offers a glimpse into Karlsson’s mindset-a self-aware, slightly ironic nod to the necessity of innovation while operating within the familiar frameworks of pop and dance music.

The upcoming EP is a curated collection of reworks that spans diverse genres, featuring interpretations of tracks by Frankie Valli, The Killers, Feist, and The War On Drugs. These selections are deeply personal, serving as a sonic diary of the music Karlsson was immersed in during the formation of his indie-dance trio, Miike Snow. This project represents a return to a period in his career defined by the raw, uninhibited discovery of creative freedom.

From Pop Architect to Personal Expression

Long before the global success of Galantis, Karlsson was a titan of the pop industry under the moniker Bloodshy, working alongside Pontus Winnberg. Their production credits include the Grammy-winning ‘Toxic’ by Britney Spears, as well as hits like ‘Piece of Me’ and ‘Radar,’ alongside collaborations with icons like Madonna and Katy Perry.

In many ways, The Devil’s Tax Return: Volume 1 acts as a deliberate counter-narrative to that era. While his early work was often meticulously engineered for radio dominance, this EP is stripped-back and intimate, prioritizing songs that resonate with his personal history over commercial formulas.

Global Tour and MIDSOMMAR Expansion

Galantis has maintained a heavy presence on the live circuit, recently delivering high-energy performances at Electric Forest and the San Francisco installment of MIDSOMMAR. The latter is Karlsson’s bespoke event series, designed to foster themes of community, friendship,
