The Rise of an American Confectionery Icon
Following a wave of buzz generated by their recent promotional campaign, Angel Studios has dropped the definitive trailer for Hershey. This upcoming biographical drama chronicles the humble beginnings and eventual meteoric rise of the world-renowned chocolate empire. Scheduled for a wide theatrical release during the Thanksgiving holiday this month, the film serves as a cinematic tribute to the industrial spirit of Pennsylvania.
A Different Kind of Studio Narrative
Angel Studios has carved out a distinct niche in the film industry by strictly adhering to a “family-friendly” mandate, which explicitly prohibits profanity and explicit sexual content in all of their movies. Rather than focusing on gritty realism, Hershey leans into a narrative of American ingenuity and the power of free-market capitalism. It frames the company’s growth not just as a business success, but as a foundational piece of the American dream.
From Philadelphia Roots to Global Dominance
The film traces the timeline of Milton S. Hershey’s journey, starting with his initial foray into the candy business in Philadelphia in 1873. Viewers will witness the evolution of his craft, moving from the establishment of his early caramel venture in 1883 to the eventual launch of the iconic Hershey’s Milk Chocolate bar in 1900.
Much like the story of Henry Ford’s assembly line or the Wright brothers’ first flight, this film highlights the relentless persistence required to turn a small-town shop into a global household name. Directed by Mark Waters, the production stars Finn Wittrock as the visionary Milton S., alongside a supporting cast that brings the partnership between Milton and his wife, Kitty, to life. Their shared ambition and innovative approach to mass-producing high-quality chocolate fundamentally altered the landscape of the global snack industry.
